Dough Bowl Q&A

Lots of you love the dough bowl candles but there are a few questions that have popped up often so I thought it might be helpful to share some of the FAQs about our dough bowl candles.

HOW SAFE ARE WOODEN BOWL CANDLES?

We believe they are safe as long as you are aware of candle safety warnings and follow burning instructions. Wax in a candle melts from the heat of the burning wick burning. The wick is and metal wick holder is secured in place with hot glue (we chose not to use wick stickers like some other companies because repeated testing has shown that they do not stay securely attached.) As long as the wick and tab stay secured to the bowl the actual flame will only melt the surrounding wax. If trimmed properly before each burn and not burned for longer than recommended, it should not come in contact with the container. Each of our bowls comes with a care card with specifics to ensure you are aware of safety and have an enjoyable experience.

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY PRECAUTION FOR BURNING A DOUGH BOWL CANDLE?

We always recommend that you follow by the federal warnings/burning instructions that are listed on the sticker that is attached to the bottom of the candles and the care card provided with the candle.

·        Burn within sight. (Do not light and walk away, be in the same room while lit.)

·        Trim wick to 1/4" before lighting.

·        Keep the candle free of any foreign materials including matches and wick trimmings.

·        Only burn the candle on a level, fire-resistant surface away from flammable materials.

·        Do not burn candles for more than 4 hours at a time.

·        Stop use when only 1/4" of wax remains.

·        and as always keep out of reach of children and pets.

ARE THESE BOWLS WATER-TIGHT AND LEAKPROOF?

We check each bowl when we receive them for any potential issues and also double-check them as we fill them to ensure there are no pinhole leaks. However, we cannot guarantee a bowl won’t leak. Wood is affected by temperature, humidity, and internal moisture , as any of those elements change the wood cells, fibers, and grain can expand or contract. We always if you do purchase a dough bowl candle, burn it on a fire-resistant surface that can also handle any wax clean-up that might be necessary. We will not replace or refund a candle that leaks, but please let us know if you should have any issues.

HOW MANY HOURS WILL MY BOWL LAST?

Our standard answer is about 50 hours. We know that the smallest bowl holds 14 oz but with the handmade nature of each bowl, the exact amount of wax varies. The environment (room temp and drafts), burn time, and wick trimming can all affect the life of a candle.
