Tips and Tricks for Candle Burning

Jars -

Always allow the melted wax to reach the side of the jar. This is called a full melt pool. It should take approximately 1 hour per inch of jar diameter. If the candle doesn’t achieve a full melt pool (ie: if it were only lit for one hour), it could tunnel - which reduces the life of the candle.

Dough Bowls -

Our dough bowls was designed so that a safe but effective burn is achieved. You want to burn the bowl 3 - 4 hours at a time. The first burn the melt pool will almost reach the edge of the dough bowl. As the wax burns lower with each burn it will liquify the whole way out.

SAFETY TIPS -

Never leave your candle unattended, keep away from drafts, burn on a level fire-resistant surface and always extinguish the wicks when melt pool has almost reached the sides of the vessel.  Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at one time.

TRIM YOUR WICK -

Keep wick trimmed to approximately 1/4 of an inch. Trim EACH TIME prior to lighting candles. Remove any wick trimming from the candle prior to lighting. Wick trimmers are great but if you don’t have them you can pinch the black portion of the wick between your thumb and index finger, or use a scissors.

WHEN IT’S CLOSE TO THE BASE ITS TIME TO REPLACE

When 1/4 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the jar or dough bowl you should STOP burning the candle. Burning a candle until there is no wax left is dangerous, it can lead to fire risk or shattering of glass jars.

HELP PREVENT DISCOLORATION -

A natural characteristic of soy is that it discolors when exposed to the UV rays in sunlight. Keep candle out of direct light to prevent yellowing of wax. Note that some candles fragrances with higher vanillin content will have an ivory or light tan color. Dough bowls can also have a warmer color around the edges of the dough bowl due to colored wax wood stain.
