How to care for your candles
Before you light a candle:
Trim wooden wicks to 1/8”, removing all charred wood from previous burns. If the wick is too long, it cannot absorb the wax and burn properly. Sometimes wood wicks take multiple attempts to light. You may need to hold the lighter to the wick for up to 15 seconds to make sure the wick to catches properly. It may be helpful to melt just a bit of wax next to the wick to feed the flame.
Trim cotton wicks to ¼” before use to avoid any soot or carbon buildup on the wick.
Discontinue burning when only ¼ inch of wax remains.
Can a candle remember?
Let wax melt to the edge each time you light a candle to maximize the fragrance release and life of the candle. It should take about 1 hour per inch of candle diameter. If you burn a candle for a short time the candle will remember where it stopped next time it burns, this will create a tunneling effect. A tunneled candle will not fully release the scent and you will lose burn time.
A few helpful facts:
Maximum candle burn time formula = candle diameter in inches plus one. For example, if your candle is 2.5 inches across, 2.5+1=3.5. Do not burn your candles for more than 3.5 hours.
A draft is a candle’s enemy! Keep your candle away from ceiling fans and vents. It is a safety issue and a flickering flame can cause the candle to burn unevenly or create black soot in the jar.
The smaller the candle, the less fragrant it may be. If you aren’t getting a strong enough smell, try burning a few complementary smaller candles side-by-side or place your candle in a smaller room.
